The Blacksmith Shop

Original forge
All the blacksmith equipment and tools belonged to Larry. He was many things, a father, husband, musician, carver of stone and wood, master furniture craftsman, violin and guitar maker, award winning knife maker. He and Nancy built terraced pools, with waterfalls, and surrounded by lush gardens. Once he found a source of large boulders he lined the hillside, built them into the paths, and wedged them in the creek. Most o of his adult life, while doing all these things he was always a blacksmith and one of the things he left behind was a blacksmith shop.

Forge
But not just any blacksmith shop. First there was the forge and anvil. Then he built a hydraulic press to use in his knife making. This was fine for several years but he wanted an automatic hammer. I remember visiting Don Fogg one time with Larry. He spent a while talking and looking over some of Don’s equipment. Over the next few weeks he built a hammer. It’s a great piece of engineering and works just as he imagined. All the equipment is 3 phase.
The saw is cast iron and cuts straight and smooth. The hydraulic pump is turned by this huge motor.
